The Key Laboratory of Renewable Energy and Natural Gas Hydrate, CAS was formally approved and entitled by Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001, and renamed into “The Key Laboratory of Renewable Energy, CAS“(KLRE) in 2013 with the aim of further developing R&D platform.

The lab is initiatively dedicated to the identification, promotion and facilitation of sustainable solutions to the energy problems. The overall aim is integration of a wide range of innovative scientific and technological research, including economic and social research, to explore and develop renewable energy and make the lab the innovation base and a talent incubator of the renewable energy researches. 

There are mainly three research fields in KLRE: biomass energy, non-carbon renewable energy and systematic integration & optimization of distributed renewable energies.
